Health Unit Clerk
The purpose of this course is to prepare students for employment as health unit clerks, sometimes called health unit coordinators. The content includes, the role and responsibilities of the Health Unit Clerk/Coordinator, communications and interpersonal relationships, medical terminology, anatomy, legal and ethical responsibilities, management skills within the work environment, transcription of physicians' orders, problem solving, and employability skills. Application of skills in the actual work environment is an essential part of this course.
- Prerequisites: Fundamentals for Health Professions and Medical Terminology
- Junior/Senior only
- One high school credit
- One period, one semester (Fall or Spring)
- Online class with text and workbook and 40 hours of clinical experience
